Just in case you are wanting a real cup to sip at home, here's a delicious recipe for creamy hot chocolate. Mmm...
Ingredients:
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 3/4 cup white sugar 1 pinch salt 1/3 cup boiling water | 3 1/2 cups milk 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup half-and-half cream |
Directions:
1. | Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it. ________________________________________________________________ |
Mmm... For me? If you insist. Of course, if you are like me and you tend to take the short cut, the powdered stuff works great. What's your favorite brand? Swiss Miss? Stevens? Marshmallows or whipped cream? Have you tried Starbucks' peppermint hot chocolate? To die for. Or the hazelnut variety ain't half bad neither.

My forever fave is Stephen's. YUM!!!!
ReplyDeleteI still like mine with marshmallows in it. The mini marshmallows that come in Swiss Miss are delicious but they disappear so fast, I have to supplement them. Haha I'm like a little kid.
ReplyDeleteMy mom has a great homemade hot chocolate mix recipe. You get homemade, and the ease of instant stuff. The best part is, the day you make it, you have to make a kazillion cups to keep testing it to see if it's just right.
ReplyDeletewelll, if you insist.... sluurrrrrp. I like it best at 3 am at a denny's or village inn, with friends and free refills, so I don't have to clean the sludge out of the bottom of the cup. BUT I have also found that gas stations carry the best hot cocoa ever, and as cheap as coffee! AND, most of all, everyone needs to try the "TIM TAM SLAM" in which you combine chocolate dipped oreos and hot cocoa, you nibble an edge off either side of the chocolate dipped oreo, then suck the hot cocoa THROUGH the oreo, causing the cookie to go all smooshy and the chocolate to melt and stick to your fingers. THIS IS NOT A DELICATE PROCESS and should only be performed either solo or among friends that you trust to love you in spite of chocolate smears on your hands and face.
ReplyDeleteHaha Nancy, you would.
